Re: Multiple Variable Assignment

Thanks, Rod.  What I have been working on is laid out over multiple slides.  I have been trying to lay out a template that can be used over and over for multiple problems and the steps.

Here was my template plan for the problem steps and you can tell me what you think:

1)  Slides 11,21,31... contain Problem 1 Steps 1,2,3..., Slides 12,22,32,...Problem 2 Steps 1,2,3 and Slides 13,23,33,...Problem 3 steps.  I have a variable for the number of steps that I set for a problem which determines how many groups of these step slides are needed.  The template with consistent slide numbers will help, because successful completion of Slide 11 always takes you to slide 21 for the next step.

2)  The slides listed above already contain TEBs and action buttons in the template.  I go in and set variables for how many TEBs each step needs.  These variable set the proper number of TEBs to be visible in the slides listed above and adjusts associated grading (of TEBs) after answers are entered..  Currently, I have 4 TEBS on each slide, but I may need more for some problems.

3) After setting the variables for the number of steps in the problem and the number of TEBs in each step, I go in and drop my images into the slides.  The image I put into my post to NQ, above, is step 2 of problem 1, and it goes in slide 21.  I set the image to be in the background, move the text entry boxes and buttons to good places for the input background.  The TEBs on slide 21 are numbered TEB211, TEB212, TEB213... and I have created variables v_211, v_212... to hold the correct values for the TEBs.

4)  I use mail merge to create my problem step images.  The above step image is step 2 for problem 1 for problem #178 (Finding the Least Common Multiple).  In that image, the multiples of the numbers 2 and 3 are listed.  In my mail merge spreadsheet (data source) I just enter the numbers 2 and 3 and the spreadsheet does the rest.  So, creating multiple versions of the same problem and steps goes quickly.

5)  So, I create a file of images for a problem, 178.11, 178.12, 178.13. 178.21, 178.22, ...  I open my template.  I set the number of steps variable to 3 (steps).  I take the correct values for the TEBs right from the spreadsheet and assign v_111, v_112, those values.  I place images 178.11, 178,12, ... in slides 11, 12,... and move them to the back.  I place TEBs over my blanks in the slide image and move other images to fit the slide, and then I save.

Then I am done with the problem.  I save as Captivate file for Problem 178, Finding the Least Common Multiple.

I do have advanced actions set up for the various TEB grading and updating of the Menu slide discussed before, but won't get into that here.  I just wanted to explain the problem step setup of the template.
